"Promoting Safety, Protecting Children"
A Revolutionary Approach to Youth Safety

What can be more important than the protection of our children for a safer, more wholesome society?

The National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS), long known for tackling the big issues in youth sports, has taken on one of the most important concerns today - a practical volunteer and employee selection program to protect the children in youth-serving organizations and keep them safe.

As promised, NCYS has released the "NCYS Recommended Guidelines for Background Check Screening in NonProfit Youth-Serving Organizations." Those responsible for the children in youth programs no longer have to reinvent the wheel of policies, procedures, and best practices.

As the request of our members, the NCYS has also helped create a new organization for youth-serving organizations to better protect the children, our youth-serving organizations, and our communities -- the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI). NCSI will help the organizations meet and exceed due diligence by navigating them through the complex maze of ethical, legal and financial challenges.

What NCSI is NOT: NCSI is NOT another single vendor background screening company.

What NCSI IS: It is unique. It is revolutionary. NCSI shops the market for you, finding multiple "best in class" vendors, then NCSI safely and confidentially completes the entire background screening process for you!

NCSI is the only one of its kind. Beware of look-alike programs. Here’s what "NCSI" does for you:

  1. Shops the market to secure multiple "best in class" vendors to suit your needs;
  2. Conducts the check for you using its exclusive Check-It-Twice© system - an impressively secure site. Each check is run through two independent, screened and selected national databases; the sex offender registry of all available states through multiple sources; social security number verification; and federal terrorist database search;
  3. Provides quality assurance as the only company officially licensed by NCYS to interpret the results of background screening according to the NCYS’ Recommended Guidelines;
  4. Handles the results for you communicating directly with the individual who is being screened;
  5. Complies with all FCRA (Fair Credit Report Act) regarding privacy and notification in accordance with Federal law;
  6. Maintains safe and confidential record storage for you;
  7. Performs periodic automatic re-checks;
  8. Provides a full service screening solution created specifically for youth servicing organizations with optimal safety in mind.
Due to the rise in highly publicized sexual molestation cases of youth by coaches and mentors and the enormous monetary awards and settlements, the insurance industry is withdrawing from providing coverage for this risk, thereby leaving youth programs exposed to catastrophic financial consequences which could eliminate youth programs and bankrupt the industry.

In order to address the issue, NCYS conducted extensive research, performed feasibility studies from the NCYS membership, and organized youth sports industry and insurance industry summits with extraordinary results. We learned we had a huge responsibility to step up to the plate and help our members.

Here’s the bottom line:

  • Through the use of NCYS' Recommended Guidelines, the youth-serving industry now has a comprehensive and practical standard to follow;
  • NCSI will carry out the entire screening process for you, releasing you of the enormous burden of following federal law regarding identity privacy, data storage, and personal notification of individual volunteer disqualification, and more;
  • The volunteers and administrators in your organization will be best protected from the possible loss of personal or organizational assets due to costly litigation that can result from a lack of knowledge or resources;
  • You will be available to concentrate on what you do best - youth sports programming and administration.
  • There is no need to train another staff person or rely on volunteers to handle this sensitive issue.
  • All of this translates to a reduced liability risk for you!
This is an exciting moment! Our efforts to date have been met with much appreciation for the leadership role NCYS has taken on this issue. We are embarking on an effort that has never been done before. As youth serving administrators, you are the mentors to our children and the keepers of a more wholesome society. We are honored to share this advancement with you and look forward to you using “NCSI” for the optimum safety and protection of America’s children.
