Before they become great athletes, they have to start somewhere. Each year, more than 2,000 children, ages 3 to 9, benefit from the York JCC's Youth Fitness programs which include fitness classes, camps, private lessons, special events, and community partnerships. As one of the leading youth fitness providers in York County, the York Jewish Community Center enhances the community's youth through fun and functional movement planned around educational and creative activities.
Children thrive at the JCC in programs that are led by patient and supportive instructors who are knowledgeable in child development. Our curriculum promotes the development of gross motor skills, balance, locomotor movement, and coordination. These skills help lay the groundwork for participation in future sports teams and classes, as well as encouraging healthy attitudes towards movement and physical activity. Our Youth Fitness Director and instructors all demonstrate a heartfelt passion and a contagious spirit for helping kids succeed in youth sports activities.
The York JCC is highly respected and recognized for our unique and innovative programs developed specifically for children aged three to nine. These uniquely designed programs - Sportsmanship Club, Olympic Games, Character Ballet, Mini Maccabi, Superheros Adventure, Superhero Tennis, and Safe Kids Tae Kwon Do - help make it easier to teach young children with age-appropriate equipment and themes. Special events include Paw Patrol Rescue, Kids Fun Run, and Basketball Shootout.
At the JCC, we help lay the groundwork for participation in future sports teams and classes, as well as encouraging healthy attitudes towards movement and physical activity. Integrated into our programs are the six pillars of character (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship) through storytelling, games, activities, sports exposure, parachute play, and social interaction.
As a SPARK agency, our programs are designed to provide plenty of activity while being academically integrated. Our curriculum includes a variety of wellness and educational components found in sports such as tennis, basketball, football, track & field, tumbling, and soccer. We place an emphasis on anti-bullying, being a good teammate and spectator, and building confidence and self-esteem.
The York JCC's Youth Fitness programs have received both local and national recognition through magazines such as OnSite Fitness, Strategies, TennisOne, NetPlay and YorKids. We were also recognized as a finalist in Central Penn Business Journal's 2015 NonProfit Innovation Awards for our creative and unique youth fitness programs. JCC Youth Fitness Director, Holly Metzger, was selected as the USTA Central PA Coach of the Year for providing tennis programs designed for ages 10 and under.
