Dear
________:
The
National Council of
Youth Sports represents
more than 46 million
youngsters participating
in organized youth
sports programs across
America. We need ballfields
and facilities for
our youth and for
our neighborhoods
and communties to
remain wholesome and
safe. Keeping youth
involved in healthy
physical activities
breeds healthier lifestyles,
self-esteem, fair
play and good citizenship
freeing America from
other social ills,
juvenile delinquency,
and obesity to name
just a few. As adults
have a responsibility
to preserve the space
for our generations
to come!
The
U.S. Senate has a
historic opportunity
to pass landmark conservation
legislation and keep
the promise made more
than 35 years ago
to reinvest revenues
from depleting resources
– offshore oil and
gas – to preserve
America’s natural
heritage and protect
America’s quality
of life for future
generations.
The
bipartisan compromise
Conservation and Reinvestment
Act, crafted by Chairman
Frank Murkowski and
Senator Jeff Bingaman,
Ranking Democrat,
is now before the
Energy and Natural
Resources Committee,
represents a strong
and balanced approach
that would protect
parks, wildlife, coastlines,
and cultural and historic
sites at the national,
state, and local levels
for years to come.
In May, the House
of Representatives
overwhelming passed
a similar bipartisan
proposal, 315 to 102,
with a majority of
both parties supporting
the bill.
The
critical need for
conservation and recreation
resources that CARA
provides is reflected
by the more than 5,000
organizations, which
are supporting this
effort, including
the nation’s governors,
mayors, county officials,
conservation and wildlife
organizations, sportsmen’s
groups, park and recreation
advocates, business
and industry groups,
historic preservationists,
and soccer and youth
sports organizations,
which have worked
tirelessly to advance
a bipartisan conservation
reinvestment package
this year.
This
unique opportunity
to advance landmark
legislation should
not be threatened
by damaging amendments,
which would unravel
the integrity and
balance of this bipartisan
compromise.
We
urge the Energy and
Natural Resources
Committee to pass
the Murkowski-Bingaman
CARA substitute and
to report the bill
free of any amendments
that are not agreed
to by Chairman Murkowski
and Senator Bingaman.
The quality of life
for future generations
depends on it.
Sincerely,
Name
