Thanks
to your hard work and
dedication as well as
the passionate commitment
of others, the Adam
Walsh Child Protection
and Safety Act of 2006
was passed/agreed to
in the U.S. Senate by
on Thursday July 20th,
2006 and in the U.S.
House of Representatives
on Tuesday July 25th,
2006. The President
is expected to sign
the bill into law on
Thursday July 27th,
2006, the 25th Anniversary
of the death of 6-year
old Adam Walsh.
Please
take the time now to
say THANK YOU
and congratulate your
U.S. Senators and U.S.
Representatives
for their responsible
decision to pass H.R.4472
the Adam Walsh Child
Protection and Safety
Act of 2006 by unanimous
consent. This important
piece of legislation
is critical to keeping
our children safe while
in our care thereby
helping to protect our
youth programs from
costly litigation.
The
National Council of
Youth Sports (NCYS),
whose membership represents
more than 52-million
boys and girls, has
been a key player for
many years in helping
shape public policy
for the benefit of the
youth sports/youth serving
industry and the public.
NCYS is proud of this
effective leadership
role and was recognized
by Congress as a participant
in the PROTECT Act of
2003 addressing a variety
of provisions for children's
safety.
This
bill, H.R.4472, includes
the Sex Offender Registration
And Notification Act
which declares the establishment
of a comprehensive national
system for the registration
of sex offenders to
protect the public from
sex offenders and offenders
against children. It
also establishes mandatory
minimum sentences for
crimes against children.
Certainly
the outstanding efforts
of U.S. Senator Orrin
Hatch (R-UT), U.S. Senator
Joseph Biden (D-DE),
U.S. Representative
James Sensenbrenner
(R-WI), and U.S. Representative
Mark Foley (R-FL) in
particular deserve much
recognition for their
leadership on this issue.
Taking time to say "thank
you" to your Members
of Congress is not only
the right thing to do
but will go a long way
when reaching out to
them in the future.
We
will continue to monitor
this public policy,
identify important issues
and keep you posted
to future legislation
that impacts our programs.
Congratulations and
continued success in
keeping children involved
in safe, supervised,
fun and healthy activities.
Yours
truly for the kids,
Sally
