The week of July 13-20, 2014, thousands of youth sports coaches, athletic directors, recreation directors, association members, sponsors, young athletes, and parents across the country will show their support focusing on P.L.A.Y.S. ~ Physical activity, Living healthy, Access, Youth development, Safety. All youth sports organizations are encouraged to use National Youth Sports Week as an awareness campaign opportunity to promote your own organization and encourage your members to promote their programs.

This is a great branding opportunity for all of us in amateur youth sports!
~ Contact the media and ask for a story highlighting your organization.

~ Contact your elected officials and ask for an official proclamation recognizing the important role youth sports plays in promoting healthy lifestyles.

~ Contact your sponsors to seek funding for promotional bumper stickers or buttons or ribbons with a message about the importance of youth sports and physical activity for a lifetime.

~ Contact the parents, athletes, organization supporters to hold a special event...recognition at a sporting event, or hold a bowl-a-thon, 5K run or the like.
Spread the word on all the good and positive things youth sports brings to develop good character in a youngster and advance a community to a more wholesome American society!

The National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS) and the Congressional Youth Sports Caucus in celebration of National Youth Sports Week will be hosting a physical activity Expo in the Rayburn House of Representatives Office Building Foyer on Capitol Hill Washington D.C. from 11:00am - 2:00pm on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. The purpose of the event is to showcase how youth sports organizations and members of Congress can collaborate to promote healthy lifestyles for children and their families through sports.

The event will feature NCYS members and physical activity stations where members of Congress and their staff will have the opportunity to play youth sports and learn about youth sports activities. Specifically the Expo will highlight the importance for youth to PLAY(S) sports following the National Council of Youth Sports legislative agenda which focuses on P.L.A.Y.S. ~ Physical activity, Living healthy, Access, Youth development, Safety. NCYS will be introducing the newly formed National Sports Concussion Coalition at the event. Other components will be appearances from members of the Congressional Youth Sports Caucus including its founder and co-chair, retiring U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre.

The National Council of Youth Sports advocates for legislation that promotes safe environments and healthy lifestyles for stronger neighborhoods and communities in order to enhance the youth sports experience in America for today and for generations to come!

The NCYS Youth Sports Day on Capitol Hill will also feature NCYS introducing its own Legislative Bill. The content will be centered around coaching education, parenting education, reducing injuries, and safety in youth sports.
