The National Fitness Foundation is the only congressionally chartered nonprofit focused on health and fitness.

National Fitness Foundation

The Foundation was congressionally chartered as a private nonprofit on December 22, 2010, when President Obama signed the “National Foundation on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition Establishment Act” (Public Law No: 111-332).

The Foundation develops corporate partnerships to help expand youth sport participation in America. It is the official charity of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition. The National Fitness Foundation implements programs to increase physical activity including:

  • The Presidential Youth Fitness Program drives excellence in physical education by providing free access to high-quality resources, tools, recognition and fitness standards.
  • The Presidential Youth Fitness Program @ Home is the nation’s leading youth fitness program, backed by the powerful partnership of the National Fitness Foundation and Amateur Athletic Union. This new version, launched amid all the school closures due to COVID-19, can be done with parents and their families at home.
  • The American Youth Sports Pledge calls on high schools, universities, professional sports teams, leagues, athletes and community and government leaders, to commit to supporting youth sports via funding and/or awareness in their local communities.
